Types of Promotions
Local Pass supports four types of storefront promotions, all managed from your Promotions dashboard.Discount on Products
Mechanism: A percentage or dollar discount on specific products you choose.
- Best for: Highlighting particular items — a new dish, a slow-moving product, a seasonal favorite. Can also make an item entirely free.
- Customer Experience: The item shows its original price crossed out with the sale price highlighted, right on your storefront.
- Different from a promotion: this behaves like a live sale price — there’s no “redemption” to track, so it can’t be limited to one use per customer.
Buy X Get Y
Mechanism: Discount or give away a reward item when a customer buys a qualifying item (e.g., “Buy a Burger, get a Drink 50% off” or “Buy one Pizza, get one free”).
- Best for: Launching a new product, or clearing inventory by bundling it with a best-seller.
- Customer Experience: Once a customer’s cart has what’s needed on the “Buy” side, they’re offered the “Get” reward.
- What you can pick: Both the “Buy” and “Get” side can be one or more specific products, one or more categories, or “Any product” — it’s not limited to a single item.
Amount off Order
Mechanism: A percentage or flat discount off the entire order once it meets your rules (e.g., “Spend $30, save $5”).
- Best for: Increasing average order size — set the minimum just above your typical basket to nudge a customer to add one more item.
- Customer Experience: Applies automatically at checkout once the cart qualifies.
Free Shipping
Mechanism: Waives the shipping cost on a qualifying order.
Discounts Beyond the Promotions Manager
Two related tools live outside the main Promotions list, for quicker one-off changes:Individual Product Sale
Set a Sale Price directly on a product’s own page (see Create or Edit Product), separate from any Promotions Manager rule.
- Best for: A quick markdown on one item without setting up a full promotion.
- Customer Experience: Shows the regular price crossed out with the sale price next to it.
Soon-to-Go
Mark specific items as Soon-to-Go from Menu Management or the product editor, then pick a discount from a quick calculator (10%, 20%, 30%, or 50% off).
- Best for: Clearing perishable inventory before it expires and reducing food waste.
- These items also get a badge and boosted visibility in “Rescue”/eco-friendly sections of the marketplace.
How Promotions Apply
All four promotion types apply automatically — a customer never has to enter a code. Once their cart meets your rules, the discount shows up on its own. Every promotion also supports:- A minimum requirement — choose one: no minimum, a minimum quantity of items, or a minimum dollar amount, before the promotion kicks in.
- A schedule — restrict the promotion to specific days of the week and hours of the day (e.g., only weekday lunch).
- Limit to one use per customer — stop the same person from redeeming it more than once.
Creating a Promotion
- Navigate to the Promotions tab in your dashboard.
- Click the “Create promotion +” button in the top right corner.
- Select your promotion type and configure the rules — see Add new promotion for a full walkthrough of every field.
- Dates: Set a Start Date and, optionally, an End Date to schedule campaigns in advance.
Managing Promotions
Your dashboard gives you a comprehensive view of all campaigns.Featured Promotions
The top section of the page displays a carousel of your Featured Promotions. These are typically high-priority offers that are highlighted on your storefront.- Green Card: Active promotion currently live to customers.
- Gray/Neutral Card: Draft promotion (not yet visible).
All Promotions List
Below the featured section is a detailed data table of every promotion you have created.- Status: Quickly see if a promo is Active or Draft.
- Used: This column tracks the number of times customers have successfully redeemed the offer, helping you measure ROI.
There’s currently no “pause” button. To take a live promotion offline, save it back to Draft, or edit its End Date. Deleting a promotion removes it permanently — there’s no way to bring it back once it’s gone.
