How Payments Work

Local Pass processes all payments through Stripe, one of the world’s most trusted payment platforms. Your card information is never stored on Local Pass servers — it’s handled entirely by Stripe’s secure infrastructure.

What Payment Methods Are Accepted?

At checkout you can pay with:
  • Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex)
  • Apple Pay (on iPhone and iPad)
  • Google Pay (on Android)

When Is My Card Charged?

This depends on the type of order you’re placing: Pre-authorization means a hold is placed on your card but no money moves until the order progresses. If your order is cancelled before the charge is captured, the hold is released automatically. Depending on your bank, this can take 1–5 business days to disappear from your statement.
A pre-authorization is not a charge. It will appear as “pending” on your bank statement until it’s either captured or released.

Is My Payment Secure?

Yes. All transactions on Local Pass are:
  • Encrypted end-to-end using TLS
  • Processed by Stripe, which is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified
  • Protected by 3D Secure when required by your bank
Local Pass never sees your full card number. Stripe handles all sensitive payment data.

Local Coins

Local Coins are Local Pass’s built-in rewards program. You earn them by placing orders, and you can redeem them to reduce the cost of future orders.

How Do I Earn Local Coins?

Local Coins are credited to your account automatically when you complete eligible orders. The amount you earn is based on the size and type of your order. You can check your current Local Coins balance in the Account section of the app, or it will be shown directly at checkout if you have a balance.

How Do I Use Local Coins?

At checkout, if you have a Local Coins balance, a Use your Local Coins section will appear above the fee breakdown. You’ll see selectable amounts — for example:
  • $2.50 (25% of your balance)
  • $5.00 (50% of your balance)
  • $10.00 (your full balance)
Tap the amount you’d like to apply. It will appear as a discount line in your fee breakdown and will reduce your total accordingly.
You can only redeem Local Coins up to the value of your subtotal — you won’t be able to bring your total below $0.

Can I Use Local Coins With a Promo?

It depends on the kind of promo:
  • A vendor’s own promotion (applied automatically to your cart) stacks fine with Local Coins — both appear as separate negative line items in your fee breakdown.
  • A promo/coupon code does not combine with Local Coins. Applying a code disables your Local Coins for that order; you’ll need to remove the code to use coins instead, or vice versa.

Do Local Coins Expire?

Your Local Coins balance itself does not expire. Free deliveries are a separate reward (e.g. the 3 you get as a new-user welcome bonus) and those do expire — 90 days after they’re granted.

Promotions & Discounts

When a vendor is running a promotion that applies to your order, Local Pass applies it automatically — no code needed. You’ll see the promotion details in your cart before checkout, and the discount will appear as a line item on your checkout summary:
Discount — -$5.00
Promotions can take the form of:
  • A fixed dollar amount off (e.g. $5.00 off your order)
  • A percentage off (e.g. 10% off your subtotal)
Promotions are vendor-specific and are only applied when your order meets the promotion’s eligibility criteria (e.g. minimum cart value). Local Pass does not set or fund vendor promotions.

Receipts

After your order is placed, a receipt is available in the Orders section of the app. It includes a full itemized breakdown of everything you paid, including:
  • All individual item prices
  • Every fee
  • Any discounts or Local Coins applied
  • The final total charged to your payment method
If you need a receipt for expense purposes, you can access it anytime from your order history.

Payment Failures

If your payment fails at checkout, here’s what to check:
  1. Insufficient funds — ensure your card has enough available balance
  2. Card declined — contact your bank if you believe the card should work
  3. Apple Pay / Google Pay issues — try switching to a manual card entry
  4. Network issues — ensure you have a stable internet connection and try again
If payment continues to fail, contact us through the Support section of the app.
