# Add new promotion

The promotion editor is the same screen whether you open it from **business.localpass.ca** (Promotions → Create promotion) or the **Local Pass Business mobile app** — same fields, same layout, same rules. Everything below applies to either one.

<Warning>
  **A promotion can't be combined with another promotion.** Only one Promotions Manager promotion applies to a customer's order at a time. (This is separate from an individual product's Sale Price or a Soon-to-Go markdown, which *can* stack with a promotion — see [Start here](/restaurants/promotions-manager/start-here).)
</Warning>

## Choose a Promotion Type

Pick one of the three types offered for a brand-new promotion: **Discount on Products**, **Buy X Get Y**, or **Amount off Order**. (Free Shipping isn't offered here yet — see [Start here](/restaurants/promotions-manager/start-here) for why.)

<Note>
  You can't change the Type after creating the promotion. If you need a different type, create a new promotion instead.
</Note>

## The Amount Section

This section changes shape depending on the type you picked.

### Discount on Products

<Info>
  This behaves like setting a sale price directly on the product — every customer who views it simply sees the discounted price. There's no separate "redemption" event, so it isn't tracked as a promotion and it can't be limited to one use per customer.
</Info>

1. **Applies to:** Turn on **"Any product in the store"** to discount everything, or leave it off and tap **Browse products or categories** to pick specific ones. You can mix individual products and whole categories in the same selection.
2. **Discount type:** Choose **Percentage**, **Fixed \$**, or **Free**.
3. Enter the **Percentage off** or **Dollar amount off** (skip this if you chose Free).

### Buy X Get Y

1. **Customer buys:** Turn on **"Any product in the store"**, or tap **Browse products or categories** to choose specific ones.
2. **Minimum quantity required (optional):** How many units the customer needs to buy across the selection to qualify. Leave blank to require just one.
3. **Discount type:** Choose **Percentage**, **Fixed \$**, or **Free** for the reward.
4. Enter the **Percentage off** or **Dollar amount off** (skip this if you chose Free).
5. **Customer gets:** Same picker as "Customer buys" — choose the reward products or categories, or "Any product in the store."

<Warning>
  **You must select at least one product or category for both "Customer buys" and "Customer gets"**, unless that side is set to "Any product in the store." Leaving a required side empty blocks you from saving — even as a draft.
</Warning>

### Amount off Order

<Info>
  This discount applies to the customer's entire order — there's no product or category to choose. Use Minimum Requirements below if you want to gate it behind a spend or quantity threshold.
</Info>

1. **Discount type:** Choose **Percentage** or **Fixed \$**. (Free isn't offered for this type.)
   <Warning>
     A percentage discount only applies in the Local Pass app — it does not work on localpass.ca. Use **Fixed \$** if you want the promotion to also work on the website.
   </Warning>
2. Enter the **Percentage off** or **Dollar amount off**.

## General Information

* **Title (Internal use):** A name for your own reference (e.g., "Summer Lunch Special"). Customers never see this.
* **Description:** Shown to customers in tight spaces — the Buy X Get Y reward screen's header, and the "Partner offers" carousel on your storefront — so it's capped at **60 characters**. If you leave it blank, Local Pass generates a plain description from your settings automatically (e.g., "50% off your order").

## Minimum Requirements

Choose **one** condition — the form won't let you apply more than one at once:

* **No minimum** — the promotion applies to any qualifying order.
* **Minimum quantity of items** — the customer must add at least this many items to their cart.
* **Minimum purchase amount** — the customer must spend at least this dollar amount.

## Active Dates

* **Start date & time:** When the promotion becomes valid. Defaults to now.
* **Set End Date:** Toggle on to give the promotion an expiration date and time.
* **Restrict by day & time:** Toggle on to limit the promotion to specific days of the week and a start/end time — useful for something like a weekday lunch special. When enabled, pick at least one **Active day** plus a start and end time.

## Visibility & Usage Limits

* **Feature on store:** Shows the promotion in your storefront's promotions section. Recommended for time-sensitive or high-value offers.
* **Limit to one use per customer:** Stops the same customer from redeeming the offer more than once. Not shown for **Discount on Products**, since that type has no per-customer redemption to limit — see the note above.

## Saving

* **Save Draft:** Saves your settings without going live. Customers won't see it. Use this to prepare a campaign in advance.
* **Publish:** Saves the promotion and sets it live immediately (once the Start Date has arrived).
