# Getting Started

## How Local Pass Works

As a courier on Local Pass, you receive delivery requests sent directly to your phone while you're on shift. Here's the basic loop:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go on shift">
    Open the app and toggle your shift on. Local Pass begins sharing your location with the dispatch system so nearby orders can be routed to you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Receive a request">
    When an order is matched to you, your phone rings and a delivery card appears on screen. You have **40 seconds** to accept or decline.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick up the order">
    Navigate to the restaurant or store. The app provides turn-by-turn directions powered by Google Maps.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Deliver to the customer">
    Once you've picked up, navigate to the customer's address. Local Pass automatically notifies the customer as you get close.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Earn">
    Your earnings are credited to your in-app wallet when the delivery is marked complete. Cash out whenever you're ready.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Quick Tips for Your First Shift

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Set your location permission to 'Always' — not just 'While Using'">
    This is the single most common reason new drivers don't receive orders. Local Pass needs to track your location in the background so you can be matched with nearby requests even when your screen is locked. Go to **Settings → Local Pass → Location** and set it to **Always**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Keep the app open in the foreground when possible">
    The app runs a background service for location updates, but keeping it open in the foreground gives the most reliable experience — especially on your first shift while you're getting familiar with things.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Use the Demand Map before you start driving">
    Open the Demand Map and set it to **Historical → This Week** to see which parts of your city consistently get the most orders. Start your shift in or near those areas instead of guessing.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Respond to requests quickly">
    You have 40 seconds to accept or decline each request. If you don't respond, the order is passed to another driver and counts as a decline. Aim to keep your acceptance rate above 80%.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Keep your phone charged">
    Navigation with the screen on, GPS running, and the app active drains battery faster than normal use. Keep a charging cable and car mount in your vehicle before your first shift.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Your $50 welcome credit is already in your wallet">
    Every new driver receives a \$50 welcome credit added to their in-app wallet at account creation. You can see it in your Driver Profile under Wallet.
  </Accordion>
